Every day, we quietly put our trust in fire doors. In the event of a fire, they’re critical barriers that are supposed to close and isolate the risk, but also unlatch to allow people to escape. Can you trust your fire doors will perform as designed?

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has found that the most common problem with fire doors is their failure to close during a fire. This is commonly due to a damaged or improperly maintained closer, door, guide, or track. As a result, regulations in NFPA 80 require the annual inspection of fire doors and egress assembly openings.

Similarly, local Life Safety codes are catching up to the need to inspect and maintain building fire doors. Under Chicago’s Life Safety Ordinance, ignoring the inspection and maintenance of fire doors can result in severe fines.
